Hey there!
So, today, let's talk about something super important – work-life integration.
As entrepreneurs, we're all in that constant struggle to juggle work and personal life, right? I've been there myself, trying to rock both my business and personal world, but feeling like I'm spinning in circles.
That whole idea of work-life balance sounds nice, but honestly, it sometimes messes with your head.
Trust me; I've been there!
That's why I'm all in on work-life integration.
The concept of "work-life balance" was meant to be that your work day would exist only within the confines of work. And that your family time would exist only outside of work - that everything in your life would be equally prioritized... on it's own dedicated time. (I also came about during a time when we weren't accessible to anyone who needs us 24/7, but I digress.)
But in the real world, that's not how it works.
Let's say you're working a "typical" workday of 8-10 hours. That means you have 16-14 hours left in the day to handle anything non-work related. Sounds great - that's a ton of time!
BUT you've got to account for sleep in there somewhere, so minus 8 hours (because we're all getting a solid 8, right 🫠). That leaves us with 6-8 hours to spend time with family and friends, make our meals, walk the dogs, do laundry, run errands, pick the kids up from school, brings the kids to soccer practice, take care of basic hygiene (yours, the kids', the dog's...), indulge in a little self-care, get a workout in, and relax.
And that's assuming that every single thing at work is perfectly tied up at the end of the day, that you have zero commute time, that there's no emergency or crisis situation that pops up in any facet of your life... and that no activity takes you longer than the exact amount of time you've allocated for it.
What the heck kind of grind-it-out life is that?!
When you're trying to perfect balance your entire life it's ... impossible. Because you cannot balance your life.
Life throws curveballs, and you gotta make choices.
Work-life integration gets that. It lets you flex your schedule, knowing that sometimes family comes first, sometimes it's all about work, and sometimes it's just about taking care of yourself.
Work-life balance might be the only solution for the corporate girlies, but work-life integration is where it's at for the entrepreneurs and side-hustlers.
If you're an early bird and do your best work at 5am - do it! Adjust your schedule to integrate your work with your lifestyle.
Personally, I am NOT a morning person. I am the text book definition of a night owl. Heck, I'm writing this email at 9:09pm. So I've arranged my life in a way that works with my preferences, habits, and the type of life I want to live.
I wake up early because I've got kids and I want to be available to clients during normal working hours. But those working hours are taken up with admin stuff or meetings. I do my deep work - the hard stuff - the things that really need my brain power at night.
And during the day I have the flexibility to step away. Go get the kids from school. Attend every play date and practice. Play Pickleball with my mom. And I don't have to feel guilty about it.
At the end of the day, work-life integration isn't about that perfect 50/50 balance. It's about finding your groove - focusing on what matters most right now, whether it's a big project or hanging out with your peeps.
Remember, your journey is totally your own.
Work-life integration is all about helping you rock it in every part of life, whether you're hustling in your business or having a blast with your family.
Stay awesome,
💕 Courtney
